Apr 2, 2012, 12:52 am Tonight at the Delta Hotel in downtown Sault Ste. Marie the Central Region Championships Officially Kicked of the week long tournament with a Team Welcome Event, Coach/Manager Meetings and an On-Ice Officials Meeting. Greeting the team to Sault Ste. Marie was the Organizing Committee along with Co-Chair of the event, Mike Murphy. This week is shaping up to be a big one with a total of 18 AAA Midget Hockey Games, all for the low price of $40.00 for a week pass. There will be three games a day, below is a copy of the schedule.

Mar 25, 2012, 8:03 pm The North Stars defeated the Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves this evening at the Essar Centre by a score of 3 - 2 to win the Great North Midget League Championship. Next up will be the Telus Central Region Championships to be held right here in Sault Ste. Marie April 2 - 8. Brian Kment was in goal for the win. Scoring for the North Stars were:
1. Michael Caruso from Joey Miller at 16:22 of the second period, while on the power play.
2. Nathan Hebert from Anthony Stefano and Ryan Vendramin at 14:57 of the second period.
3. Joey Miller from Michael Caruso and Brandon Grandinetti at 14:00 of the second period.
The Wolves scored first at 17:00 of the first period, with the North Stars scoring three in a row. The Wolves closed the gap to 3 - 2 with a goal at 12:22 of the second but couldn't get any closer.
For all Sault hockey fans don't forget Sault Ste. Marie will host the top six AAA Midget Teams in the province from April 2 - 8 at the Essar Centre for the Telus Central Region Championships. The winner will advance to the Telus Cup National Championship in Leduc Alberta. A tounament pass is only $40.00 and that includes all 18 games of the tournament including the semis and finals. Come on out and support the North Stars on their quest for Gold. Mar 24, 2012, 10:06 pm It took the North Stars until the 19:11 mark of double over time to defeat the Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves by a score of 5 - 4
Jaren Bellini was the hero from Joey Miller and Matthew Mitchell. Jacob Kment was in goal for the win.
Scoring for the North Stars were;
1. Nick Trecroce from Nathan Hebert at 6:55 of the first period.
2. Joey Miller from Michael Amadio and Nick Trecroce at 3:38 of the second period.
3. Devin Shell from Nick Trecroce and Anthony Stefano at 11:32 of the third period while on the power play.
4. Matthew Mitchell from Jaren Bellini and Joey Miller at 9:58 of the third period.
5. Jaren Bellini from Joey Miller and Matthew Mitchell at 19:11 of the second over time period while on the power play.

Mar 11, 2012, 9:49 pm The North Stars evened their best of 5 Great North Midget League Championship Series in the Nickel City this afternoon by defeating the Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves 3 - 2
Brian Kment had an outstanding game in goal for the North Stars who led 2 to 1 after one period, 3 to 1 after two and the final of 3 - 2. Anthony Stefano scored all three North Star goals. The game was 3 - 1 until Sudbury pulled their goalie late in the third and scored with 3.5 seconds remaining on the clock.
Scoring for the North Stars were:
1. Anthony Stefano from Ryan Vendramin and Nathan Hebert at 11:41 of the first period.
2. Anthony Stefano from Matt Pinder and Michael Amadio at 5:32 of the first period on the power play.
3. Anthony Stefano from Ryan Vendramin at 10:26 of the second period.
Next action in the Great North Midget League Championship Series will shift to Sault Ste. Marie the weekend of March 24th and 25th. The League interupts the series to allow the OHL Cup Select Team of 15 year olds from our league to participate in the Annual OHL Cup in Mississauga. Mar 10, 2012, 11:24 pm The NorthStars lost game one of the Great North Midget League Championship Series to the Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves tonight in the Nickel City by a 2 - 1 score. Jacob Kment faced 30 shots in the loss, while the NorthStars hit the net 25 times.
The NorthStars had 12 minutes in penalties to Sudbury's 8 minutes but it was enough for the Wolves to score both their goals on the power play.
Scoring for the NorthStars was Matt Pinder from Michael Amadio at 14:05 of the third period. Sudbury scored both of their goals in the first period.
Next action in the series is at 2:30pm Sunday here in the Nickel City at the Countryside Arena. Mar 5, 2012, 6:40 pm The NorthStars win by a 6 to 2 final over Kapuskasing in Kapuskasing this afternoon. The NorthStars now move on to the Great North Midget League Championship Series against an undetermined opponent.
