NorthStars Win With A Shootout Victory On The Road

The NorthStars visited the Chelmsford Arena Sunday afternoon for a game against the Nickel City Sons and came away with their first shootout victory ever.
The game was 2 - 1 for Nickel City after one frame 3 - 2 for the Sons after two.  The NorthStars tied it up at 4:23 of the third period and the game went into a sudden victory 4 on 4, five minute overtime period.  The game was still tied after the OT period.  Shootout was looming.
The first shooter for Nickel City scored then the NorthStars scored on their shot.  The next two missed and the next two shooters missed. The Sons went down on the net to start the second round of shooters and missed then Devin Shell was elected as the next NorthStar shooter and scored to win the game.
Brian Kment was in goal for the win.  Scoring for the NorthStars were:
1. Anthony Stefano from Ryan Vendramin and Matt Thomas at 6:19 of the first period.
2. Ryan Vendramin from Jaren Bellini and Anthony Stefano at 8:30 of the second period.
3. Anthony Stefano from Ryan Vendramin and Nathan Hebert at 4:23 of the third period.
4. Devin Shell - Shootout goal.
 
The NorthStars will now enjoy a 6 game home stand where they will host the Kapuskasing Flyers for a pair, the Sudbury Nickel City Sons for a pair and the Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves for a pair.

NorthStars Start Off 2012 With A Road Win

The NorthStars started off the 2012 year with a 6 - 0 win over the North Bay Trappers in North Bay.  Jacob Kment was in goal for the shutout.  The NorthStars scored one on the power play and once while shorthanded.  It was a 0 to 0 tie after one frame, 3 to 0 after two and the final of 6 - 0.  Scoring for the NorthStars were:
1. Anthony Stefano from Ryan Vendramin and Michael Caruso at 15:06 of the second period.
2. Michael Amadio from Matt Pinder at 5:55 of the second period.
3. Matt Pinder from Michael Amadio and Nathan Hebert at 3:27 of the second period.
4. Devin Shell unassisted at 8:59 of the third period while shorthanded.
5. Matt Pinder from Michael Amadio and Nathan Hebert at 8:06 of the third period.
6. Michael Caruso from Jack MacLeod and Michael Amadio at 4:49 of the third period on the power play.
 
Next action for the NorthStars is tomorrow Sunday in Chelmsford when they play the Nickel City Sons.

NorthStars Finish Off 2011 With a Big Win

The NorthStars finsished off 2011 with a big win today at the John Rhodes Arena.  The Stars blasted the North Bay Trappers by a score of 9 - 0
Brian Kment earned the shutout for the NorthStars.  The NorthStars scored four goals in the first, 3 goals in the second and the final 2 in the third period.  The game was a chippy affair with 33 minutes in penalties going to the NorthStars and 51 minutes to the Trappers.
Scoring for the NorthStars were:
1. Michael Amadio from Nathan Hebert at 19:24 of the first period.
2. Matt Pinder from Jack MacLeod and Michael Amadio at 17:21 of the first period.
3. Ryan Vendramin from Matthew Mitchell and Anthony Stefano at 14:43 of the first period.
4. Matt Pinder from Nathan Hebert and Michael Amadio at 10:02 of the first period on the power play.
5. Nathan Hebert from Brandon Grandinetti at 15:52 of the second period.
6. Jaren Bellini from Michael Amadio and Jack MacLeod at 8:45 of the second period on the power play.
7. Matt Pinder from Nathan Hebert and Anthony Stefano at 4:18 of the second period.
8. Joey Miller from Devin Shell at 14:12 of the third period.
9. Anthony Stefano from Matt Pinder at 12:12 of the third period.
 
The NorthStars will now enjoy an extended break over the Holiday Season until their first games of 2012.  The NorthStars will travel to North Bay Saturday January 7 to play the Trappers and then on to Sudbury on the 8th to play the Nickel City Sons.

NorthStars Gain A Point In Shootout Loss

The NorthStars travelled to the Nickel City Saturday night to take on the Nickel Capital Wolves.  After one period Sudbury was up 1 - 0 and 2 - 0 after two periods.  The NorthStars tied the game in the third with the first goal just 48 seconds into the third period and the second just 45 seconds later.  The game remained that way through the third and until the end of a 5 minute, 4 on 4 overtime period.  This set the stage for the NorthStars first ever shootout in team history.  The first two shooters missed the target, then the second NorthStar player missed and Sudbury scored.  The third NorthStars shooter missed the target and Sudbury won the game.
 
Jacob Kment was in goal for the NorthStars.
Scoring for the NorthStars were:
1. Michael Amadio from Joey Miller at 19:39 of the third period.
2. Michael Amadio from Jack MacLeod and Michael Caruso at 18:54 of the third while on the power play.
 
Next action for the NorthStars is on home ice Sunday December 18 when the North Bay Trappers pay a visit to the Rhodes Arena.  Please note this game has been changed to an 11:00am start.


NorthStars Complete Weekend Sweep On The Road

The NorthStars completed a weekend sweep of the Nickel City Sons this afternoon with a 3 - 0 win.  Brian Kment put in a stellar performance between the pipes to record the shutout.
The game was a fast paced affair with no goals in the first period, 1 in the second and then a pair of power play goals in the third. 
Scoring for the NorthStars were:
1. Devin Shell from Joey Miller and Jaren Bellini at 16:26 of the second period.
2. Anthony Stefano from Matthew Mitchell and Ryan Vendramin at 10:41 of the third period on the power play.
3. Michael Amadio from Nathan Hebert and Brenden Pheasant at 8:45 of the third period on the power play.
 
Next action for the NorthStars is a single game Saturday on the road against the sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves.  


NorthStars Win on The Road

The NorthStars won this afternoon in Sudbury over the Nickel City Sons by a score of 3 - 2 The game was scoreless after one period and 3 - 0 after two.  The Sons scored a power play goal at 6:05 of the third period then pulled their goalie for the extra attacker late in the third and scored at 00:39 to close within one, but the NorthStars held them off.
Jacob Kment was in goal for the win.
Scoring for the NorthStars were:
1. Ryan Vendramin from Devin Shell and Anthony Stefano at 16:28 of the second period.
2. Michael Amadio from Matt Pinder and Nathan hebert at 14:41 of the second period.
3. Matt Pinder from Nathan Hebert and Michael Amadio at 7:24 of the second period.
 
The same two teams play again tomorrow here in Sudbury at the Chelmsford Arena, game time is 1:30pm 


Playoff Action for the NorthStars at the Kitchener Blueline Tournament

Playoff action for the NorthStars at the Kitchener Blueline Tournament was an exciting day.  The morning started out with a semi-final matchup against the Huron-Perth Lakers.  The NorthStars prevailed and won the game 3 - 1  Brian Kment was in goal for the win.
Scoring for the NorthStars were:
1. Ryan Vendramin from Anthony Stefano and Nathan Hebert at 10:53 of the first period.
2. Nathan Hebert unassisted at 6:32 of the first period.
3. Joey Miller from Michael Amadio and Jack MacLeod at 14:28 of the third period on the power play.
 
Later in the day the NorthStars played the winner of the other semi-final game between the Waterloo Wolves and the Whitby Wildcats, which ended up being the Whitby Wildcats, in the championship game.  The NorthStars scored the first goal at 12:40 of the first period and the game remained that way until Whitby scored on the power play at 8:10 of the second period.  The game stayed tied right to the end of the third period signifying Overtime.  The teams went down to three players aside and the goalie and could only change on the fly for a 10 minute sudden victory period.  The game was an exciting back and forth match up.  At 7:40 of the OT Ryan Vendramin went in on a breakaway and hit the post, the NorthStars had the better of the scoring chances during the overtime period.  However at the 7:00 minute mark, off a face off for icing in the NorthStars zone, Whitby got one by  screened NorthStar goalie Brian Kment for the overtime victory.  All in all the NorthStars had an excellent tournament going 5 for 6 over the weekend.
Scoring the lone goal for the game for the NorthStars was:
1. Anthony Stefano from Matthew Mitchell and Ryan Vendramin.
 
Next action for the NorthStars is this weekend in Sudbury when they play a pair of games against the Nickel City Sons.
