North Stars Win in O/T

The North Stars defeated the North Bay Trappers this afternoon in overtime by a score of 2 - 1. The game was scoreless after one period and 1 - 0 for the North Stars after two. In the third the Trappers pulled their goalie in favour of the extra attacker and scored to tie the game with only 00:33 seconds left on the clock.

The North Stars then scored in overtime with 00:26 seconds left on the clock, narrowly avoiding their first shoot out game. Mathieu Ouellet was in goal for the win.

Scoring for the North Stars were:

1. Luke Buck from Connor Cassavia and Kurtis Giommi at 1:45 of the second period.

2. Derek Battagin from Grant Syrette at 00:26 of overtime.

The North Stars enjoy a weekend off next weekend but return to action at home on Sunday December 12 against the Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves. Gametime is at 1:00pm

North Stars Win at Home

The North Stars defeated the Timmins Majors at the John Rhodes Arena tonight by a score of 4 - 1. It was a 0 - 0 tie after one period, 1 - 1 after two and then the North Stars scored three unanswered goals in the third. The match was a tame affair with only one minor penalty called to each team. Mathieu Ouellet was in goal for the North Stars.

Scoring for the North Stars were:

1. Kurtis Giommi from Justin Cooke and Derek Battagin at 16:19 of the second period.

2. Scott Marshall from Grant Syrette and Luke Buck at 12:48 of the third period.

3. Derek Battagin from Matthew Mitchell and Scott Marshall at 10:01 of the third period.

4. Grant Syrette from Scott Marshall and Luke Buck at 3:52 of the third period.

Next action for the North Stars is tomorrow, Sunday at the Rhodes Arena when the North Bay Trappers come to town for an afternoon match up. Game time is 1:00pm.

North Stars End Road Trip 1 and 1

The North Stars were on the losing end of a 4 - 3 score in the Nickel City this afternoon to the hands of the Nickel Capital Wolves.

Mathieu Ouellet was in goal for the Stars. Scoring for the North Stars were:

1. Justin Cooke from Luke Buck and Josh Hicks at 6:20 of the first period while on the power play.

2. Matt Pinder from Zack Nadeau (affiliated player) and Jack MacLeod at 3:44 of the first period.

3. Scott Marshall from Zack Nadeau and Derek Battagin at 3:40 of the second period while on the power play.

Next action for the North Stars will be this weekend at home when they particpate in the Greyhound Classic Tournament.

North Stars Upend Trappers In North Bay

The Soo North Stars defeated the host North Bay Trappers tonight by a score of 5-2. Matt Zalewski, Tyler Brown and Luke Buck each picked up three points in tonight's contest. Mathieu Ouellet earned the victory in goal. Scoring for the Stars were:

1. Matt Zalewski from Justin Cooke and Luke Buck at 0:53 of the first period on the powerplay.
2. Tyler Brown from Luke Buck at 1:22 of the second period.
3. Matt Zalewski from Derek Battagin and Tyler Brown at 18:54 of the third period on the powerplay.
4. Matt Pinder from Zack Nadeau and Matt Zalewski at 12:25 of the third period.
5. Luke Buck from Tyler Brown and Jack MacLeod at 10:34 of the third period.

The Stars faceoff against the Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves on Sunday afternoon. Gametime is slated for 2:50 at the Countryside Arena in Sunday.

North Stars Downed By Cubs

The Soo North Stars struggled and suffered a 5-2 defeat to the host New Liskeard Cubs on Sunday afternoon. Mathieu Ouellet was in goal for the loss. Scoring for the Stars were:

1. Tyler Sehovic from Josh Hicks and Luke Buck at 14:14 of the first period.
2. Matt Zalewski scored unassisted at 16:19 of the third period.

The North Stars continue league action they visit the North Bay Trappers and Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves on Saturday November 13 and Sunday November 14. Saturdays contest versus North Bay begins at 7:20 and puck drop for Sundays match up in Sudbury is at 2:50.

North Stars Squeak Out Victory In Kirkland Lake

The Soo North Stars scored late in third period on Saturday night to send the game overtime. Early in the overtime period, they scored to secure the victory over the host Kirkland Lake Legion 87's. Nicholas Giunti earned the win in net. Scoring for the North Stars were:

1. Matt Thomas from Derek Battagin at 16:54 of the first period.
2. Scott Marshall from Jack MacLeod and Luke Buck at 16:08 of the first period.
3. Jack MacLeod scored unassisted at 1:40 of the first period.
4. Michael Caruso from Derek Battagin and Justin Cooke at 7:20 of the second period scored on the powerplay.
5. Luke Buck from Derek Battagin and Scott Marshall at 0:39 of the third period.
6. Luke Buck from Justin Cooke and Derek Battagin at 4:19 of overtime.

The Soo North Stars completed a weekend sweep of the host Timmins Majors. With a much improved effort, the North Stars won by a score of 7-0. Mathieu Ouellet earned the shutout. Scoring for the North Stars were: 1. Grant Syrette from Connor Cassavia at 16:18 of the first period. 2. Justin Cooke from Michael Caruso at 15:30 of the first period. 3. Connor Cassavia from Matt Pinder at 12:28 of the first period. 4. Joey Miller from Justin Cooke and Tyler Brown at 7:31 of the first period. 5. Michael Caruso unassisted at 7:10 of the first period. 6. Jack MacLeod from Connor Cassavia and Tyler Sehovic at 0:44 of the first period. 7. Matt Pinder from Luke Buck and Grant Syrette at 0:52 of the second period scored on the powerplay. The Stars continue league action on Saturday November 6 when they visit the Kirkland Lake Legion 87s before facing the New Liskeard Cubs on Sunday.

The Soo North Stars opened a weekend set versus the Timmins Majors tonight. Despite a lacklustre opening two periods, the North Stars came out with a 6-3 win. Nicholas Giunti picked up the win in goal. Scoring for the North Stars were:

1. Derek Battagin from Matt Pinder at 18:41 of the first period.
2. Grant Syrette from Matt Pinder and Connor Cassavia at 10:57 of the second period.
3. Tyler Brown from Scott Marshall and Matt Mitchell at 4:20 of the second period.
4. Scott Marshall from Tyler Brown and Matt Mitchell at 17:15 of the third period.
5. Justin Cooke from Josh Hicks at 11:59 of the third period.
6. Tyler Brown from Jack MacLeod at 2:03 of the third period.

The North Stars will conclude the weekend series when they face the Majors at 1:30 on Sunday.
