North Stars Defeat Timmins Majors

The Soo North Stars opened a weekend set versus the Timmins Majors tonight. Despite a lacklustre opening two periods, the North Stars came out with a 6-3 win. Nicholas Giunti picked up the win in goal. Scoring for the North Stars were:

1. Derek Battagin from Matt Pinder at 18:41 of the first period.
2. Grant Syrette from Matt Pinder and Connor Cassavia at 10:57 of the second period.
3. Tyler Brown from Scott Marshall and Matt Mitchell at 4:20 of the second period.
4. Scott Marshall from Tyler Brown and Matt Mitchell at 17:15 of the third period.
5. Justin Cooke from Josh Hicks at 11:59 of the third period.
6. Tyler Brown from Jack MacLeod at 2:03 of the third period.

The North Stars will conclude the weekend series when they face the Majors at 1:30 on Sunday.


North Stars Hold Cubs Scoreless During Weekend

The North Stars held the New Liskeard Cubs scoreless during two games this weekend at the Rhodes Arena.  Saturdays score was 5 - 0 while todays game was 4 - 0, all four goals scored on the power play.  Mathieu Ouellet was in goal for the the North Stars.  The game was a chippy affair with 48 minutes in penalties to the Cubs and 42 minutes to the Stars.  Scoring for the North Stars were:
1. Grant Syrette from Matt Zalewski and Derek Battagin at 3:30 of the first period while on the power play.
2. Matt Zalewski from Josh Hicks and Grant Syrette at 13:23 of the second period while on the power play.
3. Derek Battagin from Grant Syrette and Matt Zalewski at 11:02 of the second period while on the power play.
4. Matt Zalewski from Justin Cooke and Derek Battagin at 5:55 of the second period while on the power play.
 
Next action for the North Stars is on the road next weekend when they travel to Timmins for a pair of games Saturday and Sunday.


North Stars Win On Home Ice

The North Stars defeated the New Liskeard Cubs tonight at the John Rhodes Arena by a score of 5 - 0.  Nicholas Giunti was in goal for the shutout.
Scoring for the North Stars were:
1. Grant Syrette from Justin Cooke and Tyler Brown at 13:38 of the first period while on the power play.
2. Scott Marshall from Luke Buck and Grant Syrette at 19:24 of the second period.
3. Scott Marshall from Tyler Sehovic and Connor Cassavia at 6:38 of the second period.
4. Grant Syrette from Justin Cooke and Josh Hicks at 7:27 of the third period while on the power play.
5. Luke Buck from Matt Pinder and Josh Hicks at 2:50 of the third period.
 
Next action for the North Stars is Sunday October 24 at the Rhodes Arena when they take on the same New Liskeard Cubs.  Gametime is at 1:00pm


North Stars Defeated In Semi Final

The Soo North Stars were defeated today in a tough battle with the London Jr Knights. In the semi final match, London scored late in the first overtime to oust the Stars by a score 3-2. Mathieu Ouellet suffered the loss in net. Scoring for the North Stars were:

1. Joey Miller from Kurtis Giommi and Josh Hicks at 6:16 of the second period.
2. Tyler Brown from Matt Mitchell and Josh Hicks at 13:07 of the third period.

The North Stars resume league action on Saturday when they host the New Liskeard Cubs for a pair of games. Game times are 7:00 pm for Saturday's action and 1:00 pm on Sunday at John Rhodes Arena 2.


North Stars Advance To Semi Finals

The Soo North Stars defeated the Toronto Jr Canadiens tonight by a score of 3-2. By virtue of the win, the Stars finished first in their division with a 3-0-1 record and advance to play in the semi finals on Sunday. Nicholas Giunti earned the victory in goal. Scoring for the North Stars were:

1. Justin Cooke from Tyler Brown and Connor Cassavia at 2:02 of the first period on the powerplay.
2. Derek Battagin from Kurtis Giommi and Justin Cooke at 3:56 of the second period scored shorthanded.
3. Grant Syrette from Derek Battagin and Justin Cooke at 0:44 of the third period in an empty net.

The North Stars will play the host London Jr Knights in the semi finals tomorrow (Sunday) at 10:25.


North Stars Earn Tie With Raiders

The Soo North Stars played to a 3-3 tie against Ajax-Pickering Raiders today. The Stars record now stands 2-0-1 heading heading into the final round robin game this evening. Mathieu Ouellet was in goal for the win. Scoring for the North Stars were:

1. Grant Syrette from Tyler Brown and Matt Mitchell at 2:04 of the first period.
2. Tyler Brown on a penalty shot at 3:38 of the second period.
3. Kurtis Giommi from Derek Battagin and Josh Hicks at 3:04 of the third period.

The Soo North Stars conclude round robin play this evening when they battle the Toronto Jr. Canadiens at 7:45.


North Stars Improve To 2-0 In London

The North Stars took on the Grey-Bruce Highlanders in Friday evening action where they won by a score of 3-0. Nicholas Giunti earned the shutout. Scoring for the Stars were:

1. Kurtis Giommi from Derek Battagin and Michael Caruso at 11:31 of the second period.
2. Kurtis Giommi unassisted at 7:35 of the third period.
3. Matt Zalewski unassisted at 1:36 of the third period in an empty net.

The North Stars resume tournament action on Saturday as they take on Ajax-Pickering Raiders at 11:45 am before facing the Toronto Jr Canadiens at 7:45 pm.


North Stars Open With A Win In London

The Soo North Stars won their opening game of the London Jr Knights Green and Gold Invitational Tournament. They defeated the host London Knights by a score of 3-2. Mathieu Ouellet was in goal for the victory. Scoring for the North Stars were:

1. Joey Miller unassisted at 14.3 seconds of the first period.
2. Grant Syrette from Connor Cassavia at 5:18 of the second period.
3. Grant Syrette from Connor Cassavia at 14:23 of the third period.

The Stars resume tournament action tonight (Friday) at 9:15 when they take on the Grey-Bruce Highlanders.
